The School of Radiation Therapy has continued its successful teaching program through the dedicated efforts of the members of radiation oncology and others. Sameer Rafla, MD, PhD, the chairman emeritus of the radiation oncology department founded the school in 1989. The school is part of the ever broadening education efforts of New York Methodist Hospital to develop professional and technical skills of men and women to become valuable members of the health care team.
Mission Statement
New York Methodist Hospital’s School of Radiation Therapy has made a firm commitment to the education of students in the field of Radiation Therapy.
Our mission is the training of radiation therapists who are skilled individuals, qualified by technical education, to provide services using various imaging modalities.
Goals
The School of Radiation Therapy offers a program of radiation therapy education at the certificate level. To graduate, students must have:
- Completed all didactic objectives including: passing all courses by achieving a minimum passing grade.
- Completed all clinical objectives including: clinical performance and competency, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, communication skills, professional development and growth.
The program identifies benchmarks to provide a standard by which the effectiveness of the program in achieving its goals can be evaluated. An assessment plan is in place and can be obtained from the program director.

Programmatic Accreditation

The New York Methodist Hospital School of Radiation Therapy has agreements in place with St. Francis College of Brooklyn, New York and Clarion University of Pennsylvania’s Online College Programs which stipulate that graduates of the School of Radiation Therapy will receive credits towards a bachelor’s degree in radiologic or medical imaging sciences from these institutions
