The School of Radiation Therapy has continued its successful teaching program through the dedicated efforts of the members of radiation oncology and others. Sameer Rafla, MD, PhD, the chairman emeritus of the radiation oncology department founded the school in 1989. The school is part of the ever broadening education efforts of New York Methodist Hospital to develop professional and technical skills of men and women to become valuable members of the health care team.

The school is dedicated to preparing competent entry-level practitioners in an environment that promotes academic and clinical excellence.
Goals
Graduates will:- Pass the registry examination and gain employment as a radiation therapist.
- Perform the tasks of a radiation therapist in a competent manner.
- Demonstrate good problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Recognize the importance of professional growth and life long learning.
Accreditation
New York Methodist Hospitals' School of Radiation Therapy is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and is recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) and the New York State Department of Health.

The New York Methodist Hospital School of Radiation Therapy has agreements in place with St. Francis College of Brooklyn, New York and Clarion University of Pennsylvania’s Online College Programs which stipulate that graduates of the School of Radiation Therapy will receive credits towards a bachelor’s degree in radiologic or medical imaging sciences from these institutions
